The Position
Conservation Educators plan, organize, implement and evaluate educational programs designed to teach hunter and boating safety, environmental concepts and other wildlife related areas to the public, and participate in public relations activities.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This is the entry level class. Progression to the next level can occur when the minimum requirements are met and with the approval of the appointing authority.
Position will develop, plan and administer the Archery Education Program in Southern Nevada, including implementing the National Archery in the Schools Program in Clark County School District; conduct archery education workshops; recruit and manage a cadre of volunteer Archery Education instructors; develop a working relationship with Clark County Shooting Park and coordinate operation of the archery range at the NDOW Hunter Education Center; plan, organize and present eductional courses in hunter safety to program students, Boy and Girl Scout troops and other interested groups; provide information to the general public; write and edit news releases; write articles for a variety of publications; take photographs and videotape stories for broadcast media.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, journalism, wildlife management, biology or closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and professional experience in coordinating and presenting education programs in hunter and boating safety, aquatic and environmental education; identifying training needs for the public; writing and editing publicity materials and public service announcements; and preparing and presenting radio and television broadcasts.
Additional Position Criteria
Position will develop, plan and implement the Archery Education Program for Southern Nevada and must have experience with the use and maintenance of modern archery tackle.
