Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Park Interpreters plan, organize, provide and supervise a variety of interpretive facilities, services and activities and assist in the operation and maintenance of an assigned State park.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Cathedral Gorge/Visitor Center Interpreter in Panaca, Nevada plans, organizes and conducts the parks interpretive program. Under the supervision of the park supervisor at Cathedral Gorge State Park the park interpreter manages the Visitor Center and the sales outlet. The incumbent will advance to a Park Interpreter II at a grade 34 after a period of one year of satisfactory performance. Although based at the Visitor Center in Panaca the interpreter assists all parks in Lincoln County in the development of their individual interpreter programs by providing professional input, guidance and information to the public. The park interpreter supervises volunteer personnel at the visitor center and seasonal employees as assigned. Fee collections and sales are important aspects of the position. The park interpreter orders, sells and accounts for all sales merchandise. The park interpreter is responsible for keeping the visitor center open during peak use periods which normally are over weekends and holidays. The park interpreter is responsible for obtaining up to the minute information on weather and travel conditions around the County as well as keeping track of events within the parks and updating information such as fishing and ice conditions on a daily basis. The park interpreter is responsible for news releases and disseminating information to the media as Division of State Parks per policy. Often the park interpreter functions as the sole source of radio communication to the more remote parks. Some travel to remote Parks within the County is necessary as well as travel to conferences and events outside of the park system on occasion. The ability to function cooperatively in a team environment is essential. A residence will be available.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major or minor in park management, outdoor recreation management, history, education, ecology, forestry, biology or closely related field and one year of professional park experience which included conducting tours, presenting cultural and historical information to park visitors, and organizing interpretive activities; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires working various shifts including holidays and weekends.
    Some travel is required.
