The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
This position is located at Western Nevada College, Social Science, Education, Humanities, and Public Services Division. The position is the primary support for the Division Chair. Duties include: scheduling meetings, screening incoming communication, assisting with projects and assignments, and developing materials. In addition, the position supports the office, other faculty, and students by interpreting and explaining policies and procedures and acting as a liaison for the Division Chair. The incumbent will monitor the Division budget and purchasing requests, coordinate semester classes, and support instructional faculty with class needs.
Applicants must be current State of Nevada classified employees with at least six months (full-time equivalent) work experience. Applicants must be willing to work in Carson City. The applicant should have experience multi-line phones, fax, and copy machines at the time of application
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintenance of complex records and files; public/customer relations including explaining detailed policies, regulations and requirements; preparation and processing of financial and statistical documents such as payroll, travel, claims and budgeting forms; and assisting staff and management with projects and activities; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
Applicants must have experience with the following Microsoft programs: a) Word; b) Excel; c) PowerPoint.
Applicants must have experience with email programs such as Lotus Notes or Microsoft Outlook.
Applicants must have experience conducting Internet research, which included the evaluation and selection of appropriate materials.
Applicants must have experience monitoring complex budgets to include purchasing, reconciliation, and processing monetary documents.
Applicants must have experience in a high-traffic office setting which required the ability to multi-task.
The Examination

The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.
