WILDLIFE STAFF SPECIALIST - Fish Culture Program
APPROXIMATE ANNUAL SALARY -  $51,865.92 to  $77,569.20  PAY GRADE: 38
The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Wildlife Staff Specialists perform program planning, analysis and evaluation; draft proposed legislation, policies, procedures and regulations related to wildlife management programs and activities throughout the State.
Under direction of the Chief of Fisheries is responsible for the Department?s statewide hatchery, distribution and broodstock programs; is the lead for fish disease and private aquaculture programs. Is responsible for planning, work program development and grants management for these programs and serves as the line supervisor for the Department?s four fish culture facilities.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in wildlife management, biology or closely related field and four years of professional experience that included organizing, planning and completing wildlife management studies, writing technical reports and preparing species or land use management plans and recommendations; OR one year as a Biologist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Position Criteria
    Progressive Fish Culture experience is required for this position.
    This position will be required to travel statewide to the hatcheries on a regular basis.
The Examination
Exam Type: Training and Experience Evaluation

The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

If there are five or fewer qualified applicants, the exam will consist of an application evaluation. (This statement does not apply for Until Recruitment Needs are Satisfied (URS) announcements).

Qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
The following questions are part of the exam
1) Describe your experience in 1) developing and 2) administering program plans and procedures for fish culture.
2) Describe your experience diagnosing fish health issues.
3) Describe your experience training staff in the following areas: 1) general fish culture; 2) fish health and nutrition; and 3) broodstock management.
4) Describe your experience compiling annual and quarterly reports for presentation to agency management.
5) Describe your experience administering, monitoring and maintaining federal grants in the following areas: 1) writing project agreements and grants 2) working with grant administrators 3) monitoring cost accounting system and reports.
6) Describe your experience in supervision of staff. Indicate 1) type of positions supervised; 2) if staff were located in multiple locations; 3) if staff were in remote locations.
7) Describe your experience in 1) writing and 2) reviewing technical reports.
8) Describe your experience developing and administering contracts.
9) Describe your experience developing and conducting program evaluations.
