The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Digital Telecommunications Specialist's perform specialized electronic technician work involving the specification, fabrication, installation, maintenance, repair and modification of both hardware and network software for telecommunications systems, Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs) in a geographical area or on a statewide basis for one or more State agencies.
Position is responsible for the installation of low voltage Data Cabling, computer network interface cards and networking, fiber optic installation, splicing, testing, labeling, and patch cable installing for the University?s telephone and data transmission system. Position will troubleshoot issues by testing to finding problem location and implementing a resolution. Position will complete documentation of all installation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics technology or closely related field and two years of increasingly responsible experience in data communications networks involving the fabrication, installation, maintenance, repair and modification of hardware and software; OR an Associate's degree in electronics technology or closely related field and three years of experience as described above; OR completion of trade school, military or college training to the certificate level in electronics technology which included theory of communications technology and three years of experience as described above; OR one year of experience at the Digital Telecommunications Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Position Criteria
Requires experience in low voltage data cabling.
Experience in non-fiber and fiber optics highly desirable.
