APPROXIMATE ANNUAL SALARY -  $35,475.12 to  $51,865.92  PAY GRADE: 29

Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
This full-time position is located at the Nevada System of Higher Education, UNR, College of Science, Department of Biology. The position will provide primary clerical support to the Department Chair, faculty, staff and students. Duties include coordinating daily office activities; payroll and personnel liaison; state, self-supporting and grant account maintenance; attending faculty meetings and taking minutes; creating & processing related college & university documents; ordering textbooks and supplies; faculty searches; arranging appointments and travel; special events; maintaining records and files; and other duties as assigned and identified.
To qualify, applicants must be current State of Nevada classified employees within the Nevada System of Higher Education and employed for at lest six month (full-time equivalent). This position works Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The position start date is proposed for July 1, 2008. Individuals with exceptional organizational skills are encouraged to apply.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: providing administrative/program support to professional staff and management; performing secretarial duties in support of a manager; coordinating communications between the manager, staff and program clientele; supervision of subordinate staff; researching information from internal and external sources; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires extensive customer service experience, which includes receiving, researching and responding to faculty, staff, student and general public needs.
    This position requires experience using Advantage Financial, HRMS and/or CAIS.
    This position requires advanced level skills with the following Microsoft applications: a) Word, b) Excel, c) Outlook.
The Examination

2) Describe your experience, including number of years, with the following: a) Compiling, organizing, consolidating financial and statistical data required to assist in the development of the budget; b) Assisting faculty and staff in developing fiscal, operational and procedural program plans by studying historical precedents, current requirements, and projected costs and trends; c) Providing administrative support to faculty and researchers in relation to research grants; assisting in the development of grant budgets.
3) Describe your experience, including number of years, with the following: a) Acting as liaison for an administrator regarding agency activities, operations, and programs; b) Performing specialized duties in support of agency programs; c) Obtaining and recording specialized information concerning program activities and clientele; communicating with representatives of external entities as required; d) Organizing, coordinating and attending official ceremonies, special events, recruitment fairs and other functions for the purpose of representing a program or the administrator.
4) Describe your experience, including number of years, with the following: a) Researching and investigating complaints, public inquiries and issues raised by external entities; b) performing research assigned by supervisors and providing recommendations; c) Advising individuals or groups of students at the school or college level by providing general information related to degree requirements.
