The Position
Accountants are responsible for preparing financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the standards of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Accountant 2 position is located in the Payroll Unit of the Department of Administration's Division of Human Resource Management and may be filled in Carson City or Las Vegas. This position performs mid-level accounting and payroll functions to ensure accurate processing and compliance with state and federal requirements. Key responsibilities include managing payroll overpayments, preparing bi-weekly tax payments and assisting with Form 941 preparation, and processing vendor payments. The incumbent will handle VOYA retirement contributions and Public Employees' Benefits Program (PEBP) reporting, as well as prepare, review, and approve journal vouchers (JVA/JVD) for payroll-related transactions. Additional duties include supporting calendar year-end processes and supervising Accounting Technicians 1 and 2 within the payroll unit. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of payroll accounting principles and reporting requirements. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting and one year of experience performing professional accounting work; OR Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance or closely related field and two years of experience performing professional accounting work; OR one year of experience as an Accountant I in Nevada State service.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
