The Position
Head Group Supervisors and Assistant Head Group Supervisors supervise the care and custody of youth residing in a State Youth Training Center by: scheduling and planning work activities of home life staff; maintaining safety and security of facility, staff and youth; provide training; coordinating emergency situations; monitoring treatment plans; and performing related duties.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is seeking an Assistant Head Group Supervisor for the Nevada Youth Training Center (NYTC), a 60-bed staff secure facility for male and female youth aged 12 to 18 located in Elko. Elko is a growing, progressive small city with an exceptional quality of life. With some of the most majestic views in Nevada and an abundance of recreational activities, Elko is an outdoor paradise! NYTC's goal is to promote positive self-growth, create change in behavior, attitudes, values and ways of thinking through education, therapeutic treatment and appropriate medical and mental health services. Responsibilities include: Schedule and plan home life work activities; maintain and monitor youth treatment plans ensuring treatment schedules and goals are followed, and provided care is properly documented; maintain the safety and security of facility by observing youth movement and activities; conduct health and safety inspections; coordinate and oversee indoor-outdoor recreational activities; provide on-the-job and classroom training to staff related to treatment programs, counseling techniques, role modeling, facility and division procedures and policies; coordinate, manage and respond to emergency situations involving runaways, hostile or aggressive behavior and youth medical needs; overseeing and participating in restraints, treatment, counseling, or transportation of youth; availability to respond to after-hours emergencies; ensure goals and objectives of the NYTC and DCFS are met.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, sociology, counseling and guidance, human services, social services, education, criminal justice or closely related field and three years of experience which involved the supervision, direction or training of youth through the implementation of educational, youth employment, vocational training, rehabilitation or counseling programs, or providing casework services in a youth employment program, parole and probation, corrections, rehabilitation, or in a public service setting; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and five years of experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Group Supervisor IV in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
Pursuant to NRS 62B.270 and the Federal Prison Rape Elimination Act, applicants must submit to a criminal and child abuse background check and said background must be clear of any disqualifying offenses.
This position requires a State of Nevada/FBI background check.
A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
This position is required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
