The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Positions in this series supervise professional engineering associates, technical engineering staff, and/or engineering students; direct activities of assigned staff, organize personnel, equipment and materials, and delegate assignments; evaluate the performance of employees according to established policies and work performance standards; ensure accurate and timely completion of work assignments; and provide guidance and training.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
This position is located within the Structures Division in Carson City. The incumbent manages the Department's Structures Division Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) or Evaluation (NDE) program to include supervising subordinate staff and manage service provider (consultant) utilization and service agreement; develop plans to perform test and inspections of structural materials and components to include steel and concrete girder fabrications and box girder post tensioning; develop and provide NDT training to subordinates and NDOT bridge inspection personnel; and develops policies and procedures for bridge and tunnel inspection activities. The incumbent will assist with Department's Structures Division Bridge Inspection Program under the direction of the Assistant Chief Structures Division - Inspections or Manager I, P.E - Inspections; preform field evaluation, repair and testing on in-service bridge and tunnels; prepare reports and other documentation of tests, inspections, field evaluations and repairs. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field and four years of professional engineering experience, two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR certified as an Engineering Intern and four years of professional engineering experience, two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR two years of experience comparable to the Staff II, Associate Engineer or Supervisor II, Associate Engineer; OR four years of professional engineering experience with two years of experience comparable to the Supervisor I, Associate Engineer.

A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
Up to 50% travel
Physical agility exam-The physical agility exam consists of: a) Vertical jump of no less 12 inches; b)The Illinois Agility Run in 30 seconds or less; c) complete no less than 30 crunches in 2 minute; d) complete not less than 10 consecutive push-ups; e) 1 mile run/walk in 18 minutes or less; g) lift and carry a folding ladder from the ground and carry 10 feet to tailgate of standard pick-up truck and then return, repeated three times.
