The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Corrections Counselors within in the Nevada Department of Corrections provide mental health services to offenders in a correctional setting including interviews, behavioral planning and implementation, consultation, psycho-educational classes, research, and training.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
Corrections Counselors within in the Nevada Department of Corrections provide mental health services to offenders in a correctional setting including interviews, behavioral planning and implementation, consultation, psycho-educational classes, research, and training.
This position is located at High Desert State Prison (HDSP), in Indian Springs, Nevada. This position reports to Correction Counselor V and, under general directions, incumbents perform advanced clinical and programmatic work. Using current guidelines, practices and Work Performance Standards, incumbents observe for mental illness symptoms, developmental or learning disabilities and other related disorders; conduct evaluations and assessments as needed; develop, implement and manage specialized clinical and correctional programs and services; provide oral and written court testimony as a witness regarding the degree of disability and credibility of offenders and evaluate findings. Responsibilities may include providing administrative supervision of lower-level Corrections Counselors, professional, technical, and/or administrative staff as needed.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in clinical psychology, psychology, counseling, education, social work, or closely related field and four years of post-doctoral experience providing therapy, psychological testing and rehabilitative programs to clients or offenders in a correctional, rehabilitative, clinic or institutional setting, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR a Doctoral degree (Psy.D.) in clinical psychology from an accredited school of professional psychology and four years of experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Corrections Counselor IV in Nevada State service.
