Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Maintenance Repair Workers perform semi-skilled work in the building and mechanical trades to repair, construct, and/or maintain buildings, facilities and equipment.
Under general supervision, incumbents perform the full range of duties described in the series concept, and in addition, function as a lead worker to a regularly assigned crew. Leadwork responsibilities include providing training and technical assistance, work assignment and work review, and providing input to performance evaluations. In a correctional setting, incumbents function as a lead worker for an inmate crew on a regular basis and document inmate performance through completion of periodic performance reports. Incumbents are also responsible for implementing security procedures which include securing the work area from unauthorized inmates and accountability for assigned inmates, staff, tools, and equipment.
The Nevada Department of Corrections is recruiting for a Maintenance Repair Worker 4 at Northern Nevada Correctional Center, in Carson City, NV. Incumbents in these positions perform complex semi-skilled work in the building and mechanical trades to repair, construct/maintain buildings, facilities and equipment. Incumbents perform basic plumbing, carpentry, interior/exterior painting, electrical, welding/equipment maintenance functions. Functions include, but are not limited to, cutting pipes; assembling and joining plastic/metal pipes/fittings; installing and repairing valves/fixtures; modifying plumbing systems/fixtures; patching roofs; removing walls; framing/fastening sheetrock; installing doors; building forms/pouring concrete; building shelves; repairing furniture; replacing floor tiles; installing/repairing locks; exterior painting; taping/texturing sheetrock; setting up scaffolding; cutting and installing conduit; pulling wire through the conduit; cutting and connecting wires to fixtures/switches/outlets/fixtures and power equipment; testing circuits; maintaining and repairing parking lot lights; performing preventative maintenance to equipment and vehicles by replacing worn or damaged parts. The position will also be welding gates; installing ductwork; repairing boilers, oil/gas furnaces; HVAC cleaning of boilers; adding refrigerant to AC systems; replacing fuses, air handler motors and thermostats. Incumbents function as a lead worker for inmate crews on a regular basis and provide input as to their performance. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Three years of experience performing semi-skilled work in the relevant building and/or mechanical trades; OR one year of experience as a Maintenance Repair Worker III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
Some positions require a valid Class A, B, or C driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Some positions are subject to call-back after work hours and call-out on weekends and holidays. These positions will be identified at the time of recruitment.
