The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Master Information Technology (IT) Professionals provide the highest level of professional IT expertise in an agency in one or more functional areas such as information systems project management, quality assurance, database administration, network administration, systems administration, applications analysis and development, or information security.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is part of the Secretary of State's IT Division, located in either the Carson City or Las Vegas office. It serves on the Secretary of State's Information Security team and is considered the technical lead. The role encompasses and adheres to all responsibilities of a State of Nevada Information Security Officer (ISO).
In addition to ISO duties, the position requires expertise in security technologies across several specialty areas, including application development, networking, server infrastructure, and cloud operations. The individual in this role will be expected to evaluate the security posture and associated risks of software and vendors, whether on-premises or remote.
Beyond addressing internal security needs, the Secretary of State's Information Security team is frequently called upon to assist county partners with their security posture. As such, broad expertise in software, hardware, and network technologies is essential for success in this role. The ideal candidate should have a background in the following security domains: access control, application development security, continuity of operations, security architecture, and operational security. A Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification is required to apply for this role. Additionally, a well-qualified candidate will possess nationally recognized cloud security certifications. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and six years of progressively responsible professional IT experience, three years of which were at the advanced journey level in a pertinent specialty area such as information systems project management, quality assurance, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analysis and development, or information security; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Professional certification from a nationally recognized/accredited organization, to be identified at the time of recruitment, is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
Certification as a CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) is required to apply for this position.
