The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is seeking a Staff Professional Trainee underfilling an Academic Teacher to work at Independence High School located on the campus of the Nevada Youth Training Center (NYTC) in Elko, NV. NYTC is a 64-bed staff secure facility for male youth ages 12 to 18. Located in Northern Nevada, Elko is a growing, progressive city known for its exceptional quality of life and outdoor recreation. Under the principal's direction, the teacher will assess student goals, ensure proper class placement, and teach only in certified subject areas. Using approved instructional methods, the teacher will provide well-rounded lessons aligned with state standards leading to a Nevada High School diploma. Instruction will include both remedial and higher-order thinking skills. Lesson plans and materials will be prepared at least one week in advance. The teacher will monitor student progress, document issues, and report students who are behind or unsatisfactory on weekly Deficiency Lists and Treatment Team Reports. This is a permanent position open for candidates with a valid Nevada secondary teaching license and a valid endorsement. This is a full-time position with an anticipated work schedule of 7 am - 6 pm, Monday - Thursday that includes a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours per week. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in any field; OR two years of journey level technical or paraprofessional experience in the field in which the applicant is to be trained.
Special Notes
The ability to travel at least 25% of the time is required.

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
