The Position
Maintenance Repair Specialists perform a variety of skilled work in two or more of the mechanical and construction trades in order to repair, construct, and/or maintain buildings, grounds and equipment.
The Nevada Department of Veterans Services, Southern Nevada State Veterans Home (SNSVH) in Boulder City, NV, is seeking to hire a Maintenance Repair Specialist 2. Under the guidance of the Facilities Supervisor, this position entails a wide range of duties, including the supervision and general maintenance of the building and its equipment. The incumbent will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining refrigerated commercial kitchen equipment, central heating boilers, chillers, rooftop systems, electrical systems, plumbing, and other areas of the facility and grounds. Ensuring that all equipment is in safe working condition and compliant with relevant codes and regulations is a core responsibility of this role.
In addition to hands-on maintenance, the Maintenance Repair Specialist 2 will assist the Facilities Supervisor III with overall facility management. This includes reviewing the work completed by contractors to ensure it aligns with plans and specifications, estimating the cost, time, and materials needed for projects, and providing leadership to two Maintenance Repair Specialist I positions by planning, reviewing, and evaluating their work. The incumbent will also be trained and involved in the SNSVH water quality program, performing daily water sample testing, bench testing chlorite and chlorine dioxide levels, and conducting weekly water flushing throughout the building.***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Four years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two or more of the major building or mechanical trades and one year of journey level experience which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR one year of journey level experience as a Maintenance Repair Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Incumbents may be required to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays in addition to their normal work schedules.

A valid driver's license is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
