The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Welders plan and lay out projects and join metal components together using gas welding, arc welding, soldering and brazing processes to fabricate, strengthen and/or repair components, equipment and fixtures.
Under general supervision, incumbents function as General Purpose Welders and perform the full range of duties described in the series concept including maintenance and preventative welding on a wide variety of equipment and fixtures such as repairing tractors, forklifts, desks, gates, fencing, doors, and athletics equipment; fabricate items such as trailers, storage sheds, and duct work for air conditioning systems; and basic equipment modifications. This is the journey level in the series.
This position is in the Equipment Division in Ely, Nevada. Possession of a current AWS Certification in horizontal, vertical, or overhead welding is a requirement at recruitment. The Welder II makes equipment repairs, modifications and adaptations using a variety of welding equipment techniques as well as original problem-solving skills in performing complex layout and fabrication of welded equipment components. This knowledge and skill is used to keep a substantial equipment fleet of dump trucks, plows and other pieces of equipment used for roadway maintenance, repair, and emergency response in safe and efficient operating condition. Familiarity with M-5 or similar data-entry program is a significant advantage.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Completion of an approved welding apprenticeship training program; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
Some positions function as specialty welders and must have welding certification issued by the American Welding Society at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Some positions require employees to furnish their own tools.
