The Position
Legal Secretaries perform specialized secretarial duties for attorneys, administrative law judges, and/or hearings/appeals officers including preparing legal documents and correspondence; calendaring; maintaining records; and providing assistance on routine problems and inquiries which are not of a legal nature.
The Department of Business and Industry is recruiting to fill a Legal Secretary 2 within the Division of Industrial Relations' Legal Section in Las Vegas. The incumbent provides administrative and clerical support to the Las Vegas Legal Section, consisting of three Attorneys and one Legal Research Assistant. The support provided consists of drafting and filing legal documents including summons, complaints, evidence packets, miscellaneous pleadings, and correspondence pertaining to Workers' Compensation, Mechanical Compliance, and Occupational Health and Safety Administration. The incumbent is also responsible for calendaring the Legal Sections' public records requests, subpoenas, notices of appeal, and related legal deadlines as needed; answering the phone; responding timely to emails; processing travel requests; and providing assistance on routine problems and inquiries which are not of a legal nature. The successful candidate must have the ability to maintain complete and accurate legal files and enter data to track weekly statistics. The successful candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills, proficiency with office and legal software, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with legal terminology.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of clerical experience, two of which were performing progressively responsible legal secretarial work in a training capacity; OR one year of experience as a Legal Secretary I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
An Associate of Science degree with a legal secretarial emphasis is equivalent to one year of legal secretarial trainee experience.
Completion of a legal secretarial diploma program from an accredited business college is equivalent to one year of legal secretarial trainee experience.
