The Position
Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs. Incumbents may function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. This opening is for a Social Services Program Specialist III with the Division of Supportive Services (DSS), Child Care and Development Unit (CCDP), in Carson City, NV. Duties include, but are not limited to; close collaboration with community partners and/or stakeholders to ensure high-quality programming is implemented. Job duties include fiscal collaboration; developing and applying established program regulations and procedures to facilitate eligibility and payments; routinely assessing the quality of all CCDP activities and of its funded sub-recipients, contractors, and other external stakeholders; streamline operational processes based on the results of a comprehensive needs assessment; engage numerous stakeholders, including child care resource and referral agencies, child care providers, families, early childhood educators, the Nevada Department of Education Office of Early Learning and Development (OELD), and various DHS agencies/programs that impact early childhood education and development. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and two years of professional social services, medical assistance programs services, or healthcare services experience which included serving as a consultant to professional/supervisory program personnel; directing the operation of a program unit; coordinating program activities with officials and representatives of other agencies; interpretation and application of complex documents such as federal regulations, technical journals, and legislative studies; writing program policies, procedures, and reports; and conducting research and preparing recommendations for management; OR one year of experience as a Social Services Program Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    This position requires statewide travel up to 25% of the time.
    A valid drivers license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    This recruitment is only open to current classified employees in State service with at least six months of continuous, full-time equivalent service who currently work in the Department of Health and Human Services.
