The Position
Public Information Officers manage the public relations and information program for an agency on a statewide basis; write media releases, newsletters, and informational brochures; produce audiovisual presentations and take photographs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA), Division of Administrative Services is recruiting to fill a Public Information Officer 1 position in Las Vegas. Under the supervision of the Public Information Officer 2, this position will primarily do communications and promotions production work for the NDA, including writing, production/preparation and proofreading of outreach materials (reports, digital media, news release and other promotional publications) in print and online. The position produces, coordinates and reviews design, graphics and printing functions; plans, implements and updates social media and websites; and shoots and edits photography and videography projects. The position also develops strategic communications plans, stakeholder communications and materials for presentation at board meetings, conferences, trade shows and other events. In addition, the position assists with public outreach, media relations and interviews, key message development and public information requests. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, English, public or community relations, communications or closely related field and two years of professional experience in public relations or public information including writing media releases and newsletters, preparing speeches and multimedia presentations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    This position may require work on evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
    This position requires travel up to 25% of the time.
    A valid drivers license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
