The Position
Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVACR) Specialist's perform skilled work in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position is with the Department of Administration, State Public Works Division, Buildings and Grounds Section, and is based in Las Vegas, Nevada. Under the supervision of the HVACR Specialist IV, the incumbent is responsible for managing HVAC operations and supervising skilled staff assigned to facilities in Southern Nevada. Key duties include assigning and inspecting work orders, planning and laying out projects, estimating time and materials, ordering supplies, maintaining records, and preparing detailed reports. The incumbent also establishes and oversees preventive maintenance schedules, and is responsible for evaluating the performance of subordinate HVACR Specialists. This role is distinguished from lower-level classifications by the level of supervision involved and the overall responsibility for job planning, tracking progress, and managing HVAC maintenance, repairs, replacements, and construction projects. The position includes full oversight of section budgets, as well as planning and reviewing new HVAC construction and equipment installations. Experience with Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems is required, along with hands-on experience working with boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and other HVAC systems. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Completion of a recognized HVACR apprenticeship program followed by two years of journey level experience in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment; OR one year of experience as a HVACR Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
This position requires the incumbent to be EPA certified to recover refrigerant and recharge equipment.
Additional Position Criteria
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
Applicant must be able to supervise and work with inmate workers.
Applicant must be able to receive OSHA 30 within 6 months of hire date.
This position requires the incumbent to work nights/weekends/holidays and be able to work flexible shifts to include potential for standby or call back.
