Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
In either a consultation or an enforcement mode, Industrial Hygienists identify, evaluate, and recommend controls for health hazards in the workplace through conducting inspections, investigations, surveys, research and analysis involving scientific disciplines such as chemistry, physics, engineering, epidemiology, toxicology, physiology, infection control, biomechanical and human factors engineering, and occupational health.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position is in the Division of Industrial Relations, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Based in Las Vegas' OSHA office, the Industrial Hygienist (IH) 4 (Industrial Hygiene Supervisor) will lead a team of Compliance Safety and Health Officers (CSHO's) who conduct unannounced inspections and investigations at worksites covered by the Nevada OSH Act. IH4s ensure CSHO's are properly trained to recognize hazards and violations. They provide CSHO's guidance during all phases of inspections and during accident investigations, helping to determine factors and applicable standards. IH4s review inspection reports, identify errors, provide feedback, and ensure legal sufficiency. They are responsible for managing staff progress towards Work Performance Standards requirements and Agency goals. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in industrial hygiene, occupational safety and health, chemistry, physics, biology, toxicology, environmental engineering, or closely related field and three years of professional experience with the principal duty of safety officer in an industrial or construction setting which included conducting inspections or investigations for the purpose of evaluating workplace health and safety; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and five years of experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of experience and education; OR one year of experience in Nevada State service as an Industrial Hygienist III; Safety Supervisor, Consultation; or Safety Supervisor, Enforcement.

    Some positions may require specialized experience and/or professional certification which will be identified at the time of recruitment.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    This recruitment is only open to current classified employees in state service with at least six months of continuous, full-time equivalent service.
