The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Adult Rights Specialists provide assistance and advocacy to protect and enhance the health, safety, welfare and rights of older persons (adults 60 and older) and/or vulnerable persons (adults with intellectual, physical or related disabilities), henceforth referred to as clients.
Under general supervision, incumbents perform the full range of duties described in the series concept and provide assistance to clients residing in the community or who reside in facilities such as skilled nursing, group homes, homes for individual residential care, and assisted living facilities to improve their quality of life, health, safety and welfare. Work at this level is characterized by the complexity of the cases assigned, problem-solving, resource identification and referral, technical assistance for paid providers, and may include follow-up to ensure individuals receive appropriate services. This is the journey level of the series. The Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is currently recruiting for an Adult Rights Specialist 1 in Las Vegas, Nevada. This recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur in the following programs: Adult Protective Services (APS) and Long-Term Care Ombudsman (LTCO).
Incumbents collaborate with other ADSD programs, community and social service programs to coordinate services for clients. At the request of a social work supervisor, provide advocacy, referrals and implement intervention plans using a person-centered approach to protect and enhance the health, safety, welfare and rights of vulnerable persons, age 18-59, in addition to persons 60 years and older, collectively referred to as vulnerable adults. Incumbents provide resources, related services and follow up to meet the needs of clients; examples of possible services include financial, health care, housing, in-home care, long-term care, legal, transportation and other services identified by the social worker to alleviate or remedy an abusive situation; Provide updates to assigned social workers and supervisors; Assist with implementation of service plans and referring clients to needed services will include visits to clients homes. Develop and maintain a resource directory for clients; Inform staff of updated resources; Ensure current ADSD program printed materials are available for staff. Under supervision, investigate reports of vulnerable adult self-neglect and work to resolve identified problems. Use of your own vehicle may be required. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, sociology or related social science or human services field, and one year of paraprofessional experience that included the application of rules and regulations, interviewing and eliciting information, identifying service needs, researching and resolving complaints, writing business correspondence, and public speaking; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of paraprofessional experience that included the application of rules and regulations, interviewing and eliciting information, identifying service needs, researching and resolving complaints, writing business correspondence, and public speaking; OR one year as a Family Services Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
