The Position
Social Services Chiefs manage the overall design, analysis, development and evaluation of social services programs.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
The Division of Welfare and Supportive Services (DWSS) Child Care and Development Program (CCDP) is seeking a Social Services Chief 2. Social Services Chiefs manage the overall workflow, analysis, development and evaluation of social services programs. Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives. Under general direction from the Agency Manager, the Social Services Chief 2 will be responsible for the implementation of policy for Child Care eligibility, program policy, contract management, and coordination of fiscal duties that include payments. Responsibilities include interpreting, applying, and explaining various childcare policies, compliance with program requirements and regulations; developing, implementing, and managing quality assurance; customer service; State Plan alignment and implementation. The incumbent will serve as the Child Care Chief overseeing the daily activities and directing operations of both Carson City and Las Vegas staff. The position will report directly to The Divisions' Agency Manager for Child Care. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, health or social science, public or business administration or related field and four years of professional social services experience which included directing social services or the operation of a program unit; coordinating program activities with officials and representatives of other agencies; interpretation and application of complex federal regulations, writing program policies, procedures, and reports; and conducting research and preparing recommendations for management. Two years of the required experience must have included supervision of staff at a paraprofessional level or above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
Additional Position Criteria
    This recruitment is only open to current classified employees in state service with at least six months of continuous, full-time equivalent service.
