The Position
Licensed Practical Nurses provide general or psychiatric practical nursing care in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located at High Desert State Prison (HDSP) in Indian Springs. The Licensed Practical Nurse 2 at a correctional facility plays a critical role in delivering direct nursing care to incarcerated individuals within a secure and highly regulated environment. Under the supervision of Registered Nurses and physicians, the LPN 2 is responsible for administering prescribed medications and treatments, conducting routine health assessments, and monitoring the physical and mental health status of inmates. This role requires careful adherence to nursing protocols, state regulations, and correctional policies to ensure both the safety of patients and staff. The LPN 2 assists with intake screenings, sick calls, and emergency medical situations, providing timely and appropriate nursing interventions. In addition to hands on care, the LPN 2 maintains accurate and confidential medical records, educates inmates about health management, and supports chronic disease monitoring. This position demands strong clinical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team to promote inmate health and facility safety.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Nevada and two years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse, one year of which was providing nursing care to inmates in a correctional setting, individuals with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities, or patients in a hospital or skilled nursing facility (e.g., convalescent or nursing home).
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
