The Position
Correctional Casework Specialists perform duties involving the evaluation and classification of individual inmates incarcerated within State correctional facilities; maintain a comprehensive record of each inmate regarding personal data, legal data, criminal history, institutional adjustment, program needs, program achievements, classification history and rule infractions as stipulated under NRS Chapter 209; evaluate, develop and implement plans for inmate program participation.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
Northern Nevada Correctional Center is now hiring for a Correctional Case Worker Specialist 3 role in Carson City, Nevada. The Correctional Case Worker Specialist 3 is involved in evaluating and classifying inmates, maintaining comprehensive records, and conducting casework assignments. Specialists analyze factors for classification, interpret regulations, and assist inmates with decisions based on statutes and institutional procedures. Responsibilities include preparing parole progress reports, addressing inmate work assignments, and ensuring compliance with institutional rules. The incumbent will also monitor custody levels, handle inmate grievances, provide guidance on rehabilitation opportunities, and respond to legal matters involving inmates. Additionally, they document findings, oversee disciplinary action, and ensure inmates receive due process and necessary support.
A typical work schedule for this position would be Monday thru Friday from 8:00am- 5:00pm; overtime may be required on short notice in case of emergency.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school and six years experience in a correctional, parole and probation or comparable setting conducting casework services and investigations and preparing detailed reports for the purpose of rehabilitation, program development, and program services of clients or parolees and probationers or the institutional classification and disciplinary process of inmates; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, social work, public administration or related field and four years of experience as described above; OR Master's degree with specialization in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, social work, public administration or closely related field and three years of experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Correctional Casework Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
