The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position is located at Desert Willow Treatment Center, a psychiatric health care facility serving children and adolescents. The Psychiatric Nurse III will provide professional nursing care to severely emotional disturbed children in a hospital setting.
Incumbents function as a shift supervisor, who will train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of Psychiatric Nurse II's and Mental Health Technicians. The Psychiatric Nurse III will also assist in developing policies and procedures and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
The Psychiatric Nurse III will assure compliance with applicable nursing practice standards and manage inpatient care programs within a psychiatric health care setting. Management responsibilities include developing and implementation staffing plans; assisting in preparing narrative and statistical reports; preparing budgets; and managing fund expenditures for staffing, equipment, supplies and related areas. The Psychiatric Nurse III will be required to participate in the rotating on-call schedule with other health care management team members, work evenings, weekends and/or holidays. The current vacancy is for a full time night time supervisor working 11pm-7am with Wednesday and Thursday off.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada and three years of professional nursing experience, two of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness or mental retardation; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
A bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
Special Requirements
CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
