APPROXIMATE ANNUAL SALARY -  $34,055.28 to  $49,694.40  PAY GRADE: 28
The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Custodial Supervisors plan, organize and direct the overall custodial and general building maintenance services for assigned facilities consisting of offices, classrooms, conference areas, special event centers and other facilities.
This position is for the new Joe Crowley Student Union at the University of Nevada Reno, located in RENO, NV. Applicants must indicated availability for this location. This position will have full supervisory responsibility for 9 custodial staff with multiple shifts. This will include the responsibility to hire, evaluate, implement disciplinary action, create and maintain work performance standards; create training and orientation programs; and inspect work performance of all custodial shifts. The position will monitor and maintain the supply budget, and will recommend custodial department expenditures and purchases. The incumbent will coordinate disposal of recycling throughout the building; develop and maintain comprehensive preventative maintenance and repair programs; perform minor carpentry, repairs, painting, electrical projects, plumbing and other maintenance. The incumbent will maintain inventory control for all furniture, equipment, and cleaning supplies. This position will research and make recommendations for the purchase of large equipment required to maintain the facility and will provide insight for the selection of replacement furniture. This supervisor will respond to security, safety alarms/calls, and other emergencies as needed and contact appropriate Facilities departments, or fire and health departments. Position will perform inspections of the building noting any needed cleaning, repairs, or maintenance; it will organize any set ups that need to be completed and coordinate with appropriate parties. This position will monitor the building for fire/life and safety issues. If an issue is found, such as a fire hazard in a vendor area, position will talk to the vendor to try to resolve the concern. If it escalates, incumbent will take the problem to the Associate Director.
Duties of this position will require heavy lifting, a flexible work schedule with occasional evening and weekend hours required, and occasional high stress situations. IMPORTANT NOTE: BE SURE TO COMPLETE THE EXAM SECTION WHEN APPLYING.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible custodial and buildings maintenance experience at a multi-building facility. One year of the experience must have been in a supervisory capacity which involved training and providing work direction to custodial workers; assigning and evaluating work; and assisting in preparing bid specifications for the procurement of equipment, materials and chemicals; OR one year as a Custodial Supervisor I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
    Requires experience in the custodial maintenance of a large facility.
    Requires experience managing a budget.

Exam Type: Training and Experience Evaluation

The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

1) Describe your experience supervising a staff of custodial workers.
2) Describe your experience administering progressive discipline, and talk about the progressive discipline procedures you followed.
3) Describe a custodial maintenance plan you developed for a facility.
4) Describe a recycling program you developed, or assisted in developing, and implemented.
5) Describe your experience with EPA procedures in handling hazardous materials and keeping appropriate records.
