The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Substance Abuse Counselors perform professional duties in areas of screening, assessment, case management, education, and treatment of clients and perform related administrative duties and recordkeeping in accordance with the standards and requirements of the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Department of Public is seeking to fill a Substance Abuse Counselor 2 located in Las Vegas. The incumbent performs clinical assessment and screening of offenders; conducts substance abuse assessments of offenders in accordance with Nevada guidelines; develops treatment plans for offenders that includes individual and group therapy sessions; prepares discharge plans. The counselor educates and coordinates educational opportunities with providers. The incumbent maintains schedules and chronological entries for offenders being treated, updates all records in OTIS, documents progress of counseling sessions with offenders. They will also maintain clinical files, provides information to supervising officers of inmate's treatment status. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Certification as an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor by the State of Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Licensure as a Certified Counselor or Licensed Counselor from the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors is required at the time of application and as a condition of continuing employment.
    This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
