The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Corrections Counselors within in the Nevada Department of Corrections provide mental health services to offenders in a correctional setting including interviews, behavioral planning and implementation, consultation, psycho-educational classes, research, and training.
Incumbents either: Perform some of the duties described in the series concept in a more limited manner as determined by the Department. Positions may be permanently allocated at this level and there is not progression to the next level in the series; OR receive training in performing the duties described in the series concept. This is the trainee level in the series and incumbents may progress to the next level in the series upon meeting minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance, and with the recommendation of the appointing authority.
The Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City, Nevada is seeking a Corrections Counselor 1 to join their Mental Health team. Under close supervision, incumbents provide counseling, case management, program development and behavioral/human services to the mentally ill and intellectually disabled. Responsibilities include performing psychological evaluations, to select and administering appropriate psychological tests, interpreting results, and interviewing individuals to determine treatment, programming or placement needs. The work shifts typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00pm, but extended hours and overtime may be required on short notice in case of emergency.

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in clinical psychology, psychology, counseling, education, social work, or closely related field.
