Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action; OR incumbents serve as the technical scientific expert for a bureau within the Department of Conservation and Natural
Resources.
The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA), Division of Plant Health and Compliance is seeking to fill one vacant Environmental Scientist IV position in the Sparks, NV office. This position works under the general direction of the Division Administrator in administering the Pest Control Licensing & Enforcement Program. Responsibilities include overall program management; grant management, budget development and monitoring; training, supervision and evaluation of program staff in performing duties in the inspection, investigation and enforcement of Federal pesticide laws and State regulations related to pesticides and required pest control practices. The position requires strong oral and written communication skills involving report writing, pest control study manual revisions, exam development, preparation of enforcement and legal documents, providing clear direction to staff, and public speaking. The incumbent is responsible for establishing and coordinating review committees and hearings to address disputed pest control related fines or other administrative actions/penalties.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and four years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and six years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
