The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

JOB INFORMATION

Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
This is a Statewide Departmental recruitment for DPS Lieutenant vacancies in all Divisions. This is the department's annual recruitment and is only open to current classified employees with at least six months of continuous, full-time equivalent service who currently work at the Department of Public Safety. DPS Lieutenants are responsible for the operations and administrative functions of an assigned work unit to include overseeing law enforcement activities, services and programs within an assigned division of the Department of Public Safety (DPS); reviewing and approving reports and investigations; observing field work; coordinating staff training; managing special programs and ensuring recordkeeping practices follow established policy and procedure. ***Senate Bill 431 was passed in the 2023 legislative session removing the Training and Experience (T&E's). In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of supervisory law enforcement experience equivalent to a DPS Sergeant in Nevada State service; OR two years of experience as a DPS Sergeant in Nevada State service.
Special Notes
Incumbent must meet firearms qualification/certification standards and proficiency requirements as established by agency policy.
Special Requirements
Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
Statewide travel is required.
This position is subject to call-out or call-back.
A valid Nevada Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
