The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Parole & Probation Specialists perform technical duties in administrative functions and units, which do not require peace officer status. Duties include casework services, investigations, tracking and monitoring assigned parolees and probationers, pre-sentence investigations, determination of restitution and supervision fees, and referral services for the assigned unit. Positions in this series obtain and verify information; prepare and process case files and recommend appropriate action; and monitor offender activities. Incumbents are not Peace Officer's Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certified and do not perform law enforcement functions such as conducting field inspections of offenders' worksite or residence, conducting surveillance, searches and arrests, or transporting prisoners to court or detention facilities.
Parole & Probation Specialist IV's in addition to being able to perform the full range of duties, either are assigned to a Court Services Unit and spend the preponderance of time working on the most complex and high profile cases or work in the Pardons Unit as a Pardons Investigator.

The Parole and Probation Division (NPP) is recruiting to fill a Parole and Probation Specialist IV vacancy in Reno. This position will provide guidance to the Parole and Probation Specialists IIIs, assign, review and approve work completed by the Parole and Probation Specialist III's; providing guidance to employees in the preparation of pre-sentence investigation reports; will prepare work performance standards, conduct timely employee performance appraisals, and issue discipline according to State guidelines as needed; and will train new staff. The incumbent prepares the more complex pre-sentence investigation reports.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year
of professional experience performing pre-sentence investigations, interviewing offenders in order to write comprehensive reports to the court regarding the offenders' crime, and preparing and presenting reports for a court of law; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Parole & Probation Specialist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
