The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Tax Examiners are responsible for licensing/registration, collecting taxes and fees, and assisting taxpayers to ensure compliance with the applicable tax and registration statutes.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series.
The Department of Taxation is recruiting for Tax Examiners. This is for an Tax Examiner 1 underfilling a Tax Examiner 2. This position will be located in the Reno District Office Revenue/Compliance section. Tax Examiners are responsible for assisting taxpayers with registrations, collection of fees and to resolve account issues by analyzing and correcting taxpayer accounts for discrepancies in reporting. Tax Examiners answer taxability questions over the telephone, in person and through correspondence. The main purpose of the Tax Examiner is to assist the taxpayers' quickly and accurately by applying laws and statutes. The areas include but are not limited to Sales and Use tax, Modified Business tax, Commerce Tax and to have basic knowledge of Excise tax types. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Associate's degree from an accredited college or university and one year experience in clerical accounting, collections, or the interpretation and application of policies, regulations and/or legal requirements equivalent to an Administrative Assistant II or Accounting Assistant II in Nevada State service; OR graduation from High School or equivalent education and two years of experience as stated above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    This position requires travel up to 25% of the time.
    This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
