Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is recruiting for a Mental Health Counselor I (Underfill for Mental Health Counselor II) at Northern Nevada Child and Adolescent Services (NNCAS) located in Reno, Nevada for the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Services and Children's Clinical Services programs. This position provides psychotherapy and targeted case management for children and youth inclusive of primary caregivers/family birth to 18 years. Mental Health Counselors are provided training in implementing evidence-based treatment models for child and family therapy within a trauma-informed and relational foundation. Mental Health Counselors review records, complete assessments, prepare treatment plans, discuss child/family treatment during clinical supervision/consultation, administer individual and standardized assessments, integrate and analyze information from all available sources, document quality of care, ensure information is available to other members of the treatment team by completing required forms and report and maintain documentation to ensure compliance with established laws, regulations, policies and standards of care.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a master's degree and experience as described above.

Special Requirements
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
The incumbent, including those hired into a position as an underfill, must possess a valid license (e.g., LMFT, LPC, LCSW) or can be obtained within 3 months of application date.
