The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Equipment Mechanics maintain, repair, and modify fleet equipment comprised of a variety of light, medium, and heavy automotive and maintenance equipment, landscape equipment, computerized testing equipment, and diesel-fueled electric power generators.
The Nevada Highway Patrol Division (NHP) is recruiting for a Equipment Mechanic II for the Reno shop. Equipment Mechanics maintain, diagnose, repair, and modify fleet equipment comprised of a variety of light, medium, and heavy automotive equipment and diesel-fueled electric power generators. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The majority of the work will be on light duty vehicles comprised of Ford Explorers, F150s, and Dodge Chargers. Trade school and/or dealership experience is preferred but not required. The applicant does not need a 1G Emissions Inspector license at the time of hire but will need to obtain one within the first year of employment. The assigned shift will be five 8 hours days; day shift or possibly swing shift. Necessary tools and uniform shirts and pants are supplied.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Completion of a recognized automotive/equipment repair apprentice-ship program; OR completion of the Equipment Mechanic-In-Training program in Nevada State service; OR one year experience as an Equipment Mechanic I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Applicants must attach verification of successful completion of an apprenticeship program and/or
experienced gained through an apprenticeship program at the time of application.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
Some positions require incumbents to furnish their own mechanic's tools.
In order to meet the needs of each agency, some positions may require specialized background, consistent with the parameters of the class specification.
