Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Biologists conduct fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects and research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; develop and implement project proposals and work plans; prepare recommendations; and participate in public relations activities.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series.
The position is an Area Habitat Biologist working in the restoration and rehabilitation, private lands, and technical guidance programs. The restoration and rehabilitation program involves coordinating, planning, funding, and implementing large-scale restoration and rehabilitation projects. The incumbent will evaluate and prioritize actions and locations to most efficiently and effectively rehabilitate degraded vegetative communities that have been impacted by land use, infested with noxious/invasive plants or damaged by wildfire. The private lands program provides technical advisement and financial support to private landowners to improve wildlife habitat values on private lands. The technical guidance program involves reviewing planning documents and making recommendations to avoid, minimize, and mitigate impacts to wildlife through land-use planning at federal, state, county, and local levels. The position will be required to present informational material, presentations, or documents to interested public, at local or community meetings, advisory boards, technical committees, and others as assigned. This position will be responsible for management of unmanned Wildlife Management Areas within Elko County as well as other state properties located in the Eastern Region. An ecological background with knowledge and experience of Nevada's habitats, plants, soils, systems, and rangeland restoration techniques is necessary. Knowledge and experience with equipment operation (skid steers, backhoe, and forklift), geo-spatial information, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and databases is preferred. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, wildlife management or closely related field and one year of professional wildlife management experience such as conducting research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; development and implementation of project proposals for fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects; OR one year of experience as a Biologist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    Work may be performed under adverse weather conditions and include extensive walking under difficult conditions in remote and/or primitive locations.
    Working on occasional nights and/or weekends may be required.
Special Requirements
    Statewide travel and outdoor work is required.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
