The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Water Quality Planning, is seeking applicants for an Environmental Scientist (ES) 1 (underfilling ES3) position in Carson City. This position is in the Nonpoint Source Pollution Branch. This Branch is responsible for soliciting, developing and overseeing activities leading to reductions of nonpoint source pollution to Nevada's waters. Specific duties include communication and coordination with stakeholders, developing plans to improve watershed health and water quality, coordinating grant supported efforts that address improvement of watersheds. Additional work includes administering grant sub awards; assisting with special projects; informing audiences about nonpoint source pollution, watershed stewardship, and water quality protection; reporting quarterly and annually as well as record keeping on grants.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of technical environmental experience which involved assisting in environmental program research and planning; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
