The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This recruitment is for an Environmental Scientist 2 that underfills an Environmental Scientist 3. This position works for the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection and is located in the Bureau of Corrective Actions in the Reno office. This position will perform compliance inspections/enforcement of federally regulated underground storage tank (UST) facilities. This position will be responsible for coordinating inspections, overseeing UST installations, UST removals, compliance reporting and communication with the regulatory community. The duties will also include maintaining the UST database.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and 18 months of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and three and a half years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR 18 months of experience as an Environmental Scientist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
