APPROXIMATE ANNUAL SALARY -  $42,636.96 to  $61,721.28  PAY GRADE: 25
The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Craft Workers-in-Training work under direction of a journey level craftsperson and serve four years in training including seminars and on-the-job training in one of the building and construction trades.
Incumbents learn the process involved in identifying and making keys utilizing hard and soft copy records and codebooks. Incumbents develop skill in the safe and proper use of key and stamping machines and hand tools and enter information in computer records.
This is a underfill for the Locksmith 2 position. Incumbent will move through the title series upon completing the minimum requirements for the next title. This position will be working under the direct supervision of the Facility Supervisor II. They will have direct contact, working with inmates on a daily basis. Direct responsibilities will include troubleshooting on site problems with locking devices; perform need repairs; cut keys as needed; maintain all locking devices; adjust metal doors for proper operations; install locking devices for new construction; keep a continuous inventory of initial key locations; document changes in location and key patterns; follow procedures/polices regarding security and key control; complete routine preventative maintenance on all locking devices; closely supervise all inmate help. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and completion of a three-credit postsecondary course in a vocational or mechanical field related to the trade; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of semi-skilled experience in the general mechanical or construction fields that demonstrate an ability and dexterity to operate tools and equipment; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    The Craft Worker-In-Training Program requires that incumbents spend one year at each level during which they receive specialized training, and progression to the next level in the series may only occur upon completion of training and with the recommendation of the appointing authority. Failure to complete the training within the specified time frame will result in termination from the program unless there are extenuating circumstances which will be reviewed by the appointing authority.

    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
