The Position
Food Service Cook/Supervisors prepare and/or supervise quantity food preparation and serving according to standardized menus and recipes in an institutional setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. The Nevada Dept. of Corrections has a vacancy for a Food Service Cook/Supervisor 3. Food Service Cook Supervisors prepare and/or supervise quantity food preparation and serving according to standardized menus and recipes in an institutional setting. Incumbents must possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced level work and may provide work direction and training to others. Incumbents work in a correctional setting serving three meals daily to approximately 1,500 inmates; prepare and submit orders for food, utensils and cleaning supplies; schedule, assign, coordinate and review work of a staff of inmate culinary workers; monitor sanitation of the general kitchen area; responsible for security of the culinary by controlling issuance of serving utensils such as knives; and provide training and orientation to new staff/inmates regarding agency policies and procedures, food preparation and service, food rotation/storage and health and safety regulations. This position is located at Lovelock Correctional Center in Lovelock, Nevada. Incumbents must be willing to work in this rural setting, located 90 miles north of Reno, Nevada. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of experience which involved planning, preparation and serving of regular and special meals; following established menus; ordering food supplies; and maintaining records in an military, institutional, correctional, healthcare, hospitality, or other large quantity food service facility. One year of the required experience must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR one year of experience as an Food Service Cook/Supervisor II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    Some positions in this series require agency specific food handling certification(s) at the time of application or within a set time frame as defined by the hiring agency.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Incumbents in the Department of Corrections are required to work with and amongst inmates to complete job duties.
