APPROXIMATE ANNUAL SALARY -  $91,496.16 to  $137,954.16  PAY GRADE: 43
The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Criminal Investigators perform criminal investigations involving violations of federal and/or State law. The investigative process is initiated following a formal request for services or as a coordinated effort with federal, State, or local law enforcement and criminal justice agencies. Criminal Investigators utilize standard investigative and law enforcement techniques.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position is within the Office of the Inspector General, located in the greater Las Vegas area. The position will be required to supervise subordinate staff; including peace officers and support staff. Also, the position will be required to have oversight and conduct multiple types of investigations that involve inmates, staff members and members of the public; or issues involving the Department of Corrections. Under the directions of the Inspector General, this full time Supervisory Criminal Investigator position is responsible for oversight and conducting specialized investigations involving any complaints, grievances, allegations or reports on other matters. Responsibilities include to review and advise on current investigations and examinations for a thorough, accurate and complete report; case and task management of subordinate and support staff; oversight and management of cases, reviews and requests of investigations and/or grievances from all sources; interact and exchange information with various state and federal law enforcement organizations; review and write reports for judicial and/or appointing authority; assist in preparing cases for presentation at hearings or in court and to testify and present evidence in administrative hearings and/or judicial proceedings; maintain and address issues with confidentiality of investigations. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in criminal justice, police science, psychology, business administration or closely related field and four years of criminal investigative and law enforcement experience involving standard investigative and enforcement techniques utilized to enforce State and federal laws, preparation of detailed investigative reports, and implementation of agency program goals and objectives. Work experience may be obtained in a law enforcement, investigative or comparable setting; OR high school graduation or equivalent (GED) and six years of investigative experience as outlined above; OR two years as a Criminal Investigator III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Applicants must meet current Peace Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) requirements as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code.
    Incumbents must obtain and maintain POST Category I certification as a condition of continuing employment, except positions assigned to the Secretary of State's Office and the Department of Corrections that must obtain and maintain a minimum of POST Category II certification as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
