The Position
Correctional Sergeants and Lieutenants have charge of an assigned watch or major area in a State correctional institution/facility and supervise subordinate officers to ensure the safe custody,discipline and welfare of inmates.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
This recruitment will fill all qualified Lieutenant promotions for every institution in the Nevada Department of Corrections for the next 12 months. Qualifying for this recruitment will be based on application evaluation. No questions to answer and no ranking. Unranked list will be used to fill vacancies. If claiming veteran status, you must attach a copy of your DD214 to your profile. If claiming disabled veteran status, you must attach all supporting documentation from the VA stating disabled veteran status. This must be attached to your profile. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    One year of work experience as a Correctional Sergeant in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Applicants must meet minimum standards for appointment as a peace officer as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
    Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
The Examination
If there are five or fewer qualified applicants, the exam will consist of an application evaluation. (This statement does not apply for Until Recruitment Needs are Satisfied (URS) announcements).
