The Position
Laboratory Technicians perform standardized technical laboratory procedures requiring knowledge in the life and physical sciences.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Laboratory Technician I perform standardized technical laboratory procedures. Prepare a variety of standard culture media. Stain and label specimens. Draw blood and collect tissue samples. Conduct observations and record test results. Sterilize and decontaminate equipment. Label, mount and file specimens. Prepare equipment, supplies and specimens for testing. Construct and test laboratory equipment.
Prepare smears and imprint impressions. Process and section tissues. Maintain and store laboratory equipment, supplies and inventory. Project estimates of needed supplies. Perform record keeping duties related to the operation and maintenance of a laboratory. Issue, receive and inspect lab equipment. Perform minor repairs to mechanical equipment and instruments while keeping records of the repairs. Operate computer equipment to enter data and process reports. Follow established OSHA guidelines. Survey existing laboratory facilities; identify equipment needs and recommend changes to achieve consistency areas. Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Occasionally may be required to working irregular or extended hours. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of laboratory experience performing various laboratory procedures; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
    Pursuant to NRS 652.080, this position requires a State of Nevada Laboratory Assistant/Office Laboratory License issued by the Division of Public and Behavioral Health.
