The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Conservation Staff Specialists assist in developing, formulating, and coordinating programs, policies and procedures related to areas such as resource management, safety and training, fire management and policy management pertinent to the assigned area of natural resource management, preservation, conservation and protection.
Under general supervision, Conservation Staff Specialist Is, on a regional basis, develop, formulate, and coordinate programs, policies and procedures related to the assigned area of natural resource management, preservation, conservation and protection. This position is located at Walker River State Recreation Area in Yerington, Nevada and is primarily a field work position to assist the park with conservation objectives. Position will work on projects geared toward park planning and recreation for visitor enjoyment. Actively work with other Conservation Staff and Park Staff with weed and other noxious vegetation removal, revegetation efforts, irrigation, mosquito abatement, and tree health, and park's overall conservation goals. Will work to improve trails and trail enhancements.
Assist Rangers with maintaining hunting and fishing areas, assist the park with planning, enhancing, and developing existing and new park recreational sites for visitor enjoyment or resource protection. Apply for and administer conservation related grants and other funding opportunities within conservation program objectives. May assist with purchases for conservation needs. May assist with clearances, SHPO-NIPPA, liaison with other agencies or businesses on park's conservation related projects. Use GIS, Tremble units, Scout software to track weed inventory. Help organize and share weed inventory information with appropriate other agencies. May assist Park with Grazing Leases and Grazing Prescription Plans including interface with ranch leases on proper stock rotation, water needs, fence construction, vegetation enhancements. This position has a 25% travel requirement. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, ecology, environmental studies, environmental science, fire management, forestry, geology, natural resource management, parks management, or related field and two years of professional experience in a relevant resource management field that included assisting in developing, formulating, and coordinating programs, policies and procedures; coordinating special grant programs and/or contracts; and coordinating training programs; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Biologist II, Conservation Crew Supervisor III, Conservation Staff Specialist Trainee II, Fire Captain, Forester II, Nursery Specialist II, or Park Ranger II (Non-Commissioned) in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    Requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
The following additional questions are part of this Recruitment
1) Must obtain a Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator Certificate within 12 months of appointment and maintain certification as a condition of continuing employment. Can you meet this requirement?
2) Must complete Department of Conservation and Natural Resources standard flight training and obtain a FAA Part 107 UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle)/drone pilot's license within 12 months of appointment and maintain certifications as a condition of continuing employment. Can you meet this requirement?
3) This position requires in State and out of State travel up to 25% of the time. Do you agree to this requirement?
