Heat Plant Specialists operate, adjust, monitor, maintain, clean and repair high and/or low pressure boilers and hot water heat generating equipment, auxiliary equipment such as fuel and combustion systems, compressors, pumps, steam lines, steam traps, heat exchangers, water lines, controls, gauges, and emergency power generators.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
Heat Plant Specialist 3 candidates will have the skills and experience to perform routine repairs and maintenance of large, boilers and chiller/HVAC mechanical systems including environmental control troubleshooting, diagnostics and repair, chemical treatment of closed and open loop water systems including the troubleshooting and repair of related controls, knowledge of rotating equipment, troubleshooting and repair of pumps and valves. Incumbents prepare budget requests for maintenance and equipment replacement; maintain records of system operating conditions, maintenance performed and equipment malfunctions. Incumbents must be able to function as a lead worker for inmate crews on a regular basis and document inmate performance through completion of periodic performance reports. Incumbents are responsible for implementing security procedures which include securing the work area from unauthorized inmates and accountability for assigned inmates, staff, tools and equipment. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Completion of a recognized heat plant apprenticeship program followed by one year of journey level experience as a heat plant specialist; OR one year of experience as a Heat Plant Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Journey level experience is gained after the completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or after four years full time equivalent skilled work experience under the supervision of a journey level boiler operator. |

This position requires working directly with inmates. |

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |
|
