Registered Nurses provide general or specialized professional nursing care in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Nevada Department of Veterans Services is recruiting for a Registered Nurse 5, Infection Control. Under the direction of the Director of Nursing Services, this position manages the Infection Control within the Southern Nevada State Veterans Home (SNSVH) in Boulder City.
The position is responsible for establishing and updating policies, procedures, and protocols for the programs; performing Infection Control Risk Assessments and Outbreak Management; collaborating with regulatory bodies to ensure Infection Control compliance and constancy on best practices; Infection reporting to CDC through NHSN (National Healthcare Safety Network); communicating information to ensure continuity of care; actively participating in the Quality Assurance program, tracking trends and providing pertinent information during meetings; and participating in investigation of resident complaints. Additionally, the position will manage the cost materials and supplies in assigned areas; assist with management of the computerized health records; maintain records for infection control reporting requirements, provide back-up to Nursing Services; supervise two House Support Registered Nurses; and perform other duties as assigned.
The work schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with the requirement to work varied shift including evening, weekends, and holidays dependent upon business needs. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and three years of
professional nursing experience, one year of which included providing patient care in a skilled nursing facility (e.g., convalescent or nursing home) or ensuring regulatory compliance of skilled nursing facilities; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
Per NRS 632.305, the Nevada State Board of Nursing may, after verifying that an applicant meets all licensure requirements, issue an Interim Permit authorizing the applicant to practice nursing until the results of their examination for licensure are received. The Interim Permit is for a period not to exceed 90 days and is immediately revoked if the candidate fails the examination. Any person working under the authority of an Interim Permit may not represent themselves as a licensed registered nurse. Passing the licensure examination is a requirement for continuing employment in the Nurse I Class.
Out of state applicants must have a temporary license issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment.
Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
A valid commercial driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
Must have a current CPR/BLS certification at the time of application.
Must possess Infection Control Certification or Infection Preventionist training, i.e., CDC Infection Preventionist training.
Infection Control experience must be documented in the application.
