The Position
Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. The Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is currently recruiting for a full-time Social Services Program Specialist 3 position which may be located in Carson City, Las Vegas, or Reno, depending on the location of the selected applicant. This recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur in the following program: Planning, Advocacy, and Community Services (PAC).
This position serves as the No Wrong Door (NWD) Manager for the agency. The incumbent will serve in a leadership role in helping to coordinate and manage Nevada's efforts to support access to the wide array of service options for people seeking long term services and support. This position is responsible for working with the leadership team across various programs and agencies to achieve project goals. The position will be responsible for management of a variety of projects supporting NWD efforts, researching best practices, coordinating with internal and external groups, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. The position will be responsible for project management, program planning, and training/technical guidance. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, friendly co-workers, and provides a positive working environment. The mission of ADSD is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development, and delivery of a high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children, and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful, and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and two years of professional social services, medical assistance programs services, or healthcare services experience which included serving as a consultant to professional/supervisory program personnel; directing the operation of a program unit; coordinating program activities with officials and representatives of other agencies; interpretation and application of complex documents such as federal regulations, technical journals, and legislative studies; writing program policies, procedures, and reports; and conducting research and preparing recommendations for management; OR one year of experience as a Social Services Program Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    This position requires statewide travel up to 25% of the time.
    A valid drivers license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
