Licensed Practical Nurses provide general or psychiatric practical nursing care in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located at High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs, NV.
Licensed Practical Nurse 2 position involves multiple critical responsibilities. Key duties include patient assessment, care coordination, and direct patient care, which encompass collecting and documenting medical conditions, initiating emergency care, maintaining accurate nursing records, and administering medications. This role also requires setting care priorities, adapting to unit changes, and participating in patient education to promote independence.
Additional responsibilities include supervising patient care, assisting in staff orientation, and ensuring health and safety management by following OSHA guidelines and NDOC's health and safety regulations. The nurse must act as a first-line supervisor to inmate workers, handle infection control, and evaluate patient care equipment for safety. Proficiency with relevant computer programs and maintaining professionalism in interactions are also essential. These duties must be performed in accordance with the NV State Board of Nursing Nurse Practice Act and departmental regulations.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Nevada and two years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse, one year of which was providing nursing care to inmates in a correctional setting, individuals with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities, or patients in a hospital or skilled nursing facility (e.g., convalescent or nursing home). |

Probationary employees working for the Department of Corrections must successfully complete 40 hours of "pre-service" training provided by the department. |

Must be able to work weekends |

The ability to travel at least 50% of the time is required. |
|
Phlebotomy certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
|
Intravenous (IV) certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
