Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVACR) Specialist's perform skilled work in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
HVAC Specialists are responsible for the preventative and routine maintenance of HVAC systems, refrigeration systems, exhaust fans, temperature controls and systems, and operation of building automation systems which controls the HVAC systems. Incumbents must be able to braze fittings, tubing, and equipment, use electrical testing equipment, read schematics and blueprints, and supervise inmate workers.
Incumbents make parts and material purchases and maintain inventories and maintenance records. Incumbents function as a lead worker for inmate crews on a regular basis and provide input as to their performance. Incumbents are responsible for maintaining security procedures which include securing the work area from unauthorized inmates and accountability for assigned inmates, staff, tools and equipment.

Completion of a recognized HVACR apprenticeship program followed by one year of journey level experience in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment; OR one year of experience as a HVACR Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Journey level experience is gained after the completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or after four years of skilled work in a trade under the supervision of a journey level trades worker. |
