The Position
Health Program Specialists plan, develop, implement and evaluate health services and activities; develop goals, objectives, program requirements and procedures; provide technical information regarding specialized health related conditions; and participate and provide support to various committees, advisory boards and other work groups.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Division of Public and Behavioral Health: Public Health Preparedness is recruiting for a Health Program Specialist 1 in Carson City, NV. This position is responsible for operational plan writing; requires the ability to research current and projected federal response plan requirements; requires any/all response plans also be fully integrated into the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Program's training, exercise, and evaluation components. As a Public and Behavioral Health employee, incumbents are expected to be available for call-back during public health incidents and/or emergencies to perform duties specific to this position or to perform other duties as requested associated with a response role. This may entail working a non-traditional work schedule or at another duty station during the incident and/or emergency. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a public health, health science, social or behavioral science or closely related field applicable to the program area and two years of professional health-related experience which included at least two of the following areas: researching, collecting and analyzing data and statistics, developing objectives, protocols and procedures; providing health education services to target groups or the general public; evaluating program effectiveness and accomplishment of desired outcomes to meet federal, agency, or other standards and guidelines; providing prevention, identification or treatment services to individuals or populations who have been diagnosed or are at risk of contracting life and health threatening diseases and/or conditions; and/or investigation and prevention of communicable or chronic diseases; OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in public health, health science, social or behavioral science, or closely related field and three years of professional experience as described above; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Health Program Specialist Trainee II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Special Requirements
    This position requires a valid driver's license at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
