Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.

Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

This potion will provide support services to inmates in a correctional setting including assessments and psycho-educational classes. The mental health professional will provide case management and behavioral/human service to persons with mental illness. The mental health professional will provide crisis intervention and de-escalation of crisis situations with the offenders. Incumbents at this level provide full clinical and administrative supervision to at least one Licensed Psychologist I, in addition to providing a broad range of psychological services described in the series concept. Licensed Psychologist II positions are also responsible for a psychological services program or unit and may also supervise professional clinical staff and support personnel. Positions at this level typically report to a Medical Director, Clinical Program Manager or Division Administrator and oversee psychological services provided at the agency to which assigned.
